See you in August!

The committee has decided there is no July Roundtable since most units are camping, we will however meet in August.

Carry on enjoying the Summer.

Summer is upon us! All of our camping systems and outdoor activities are a go! Many scouters had the chance to celebrate Goshen 50 recently. NCAC leaders gathered there to celebrate our campsite’s 50 the anniversary. It is a special place for us that has brought smiles and excitement to thousands of young scouts and their leaders.

Carry On!

I am “glad and sad” to advise that Steve Allen, our District Director, has been promoted. Steve has made almost a 24 hour a day commitment to us for years. Our program has grown and is stronger because of his leadership. For the last two years we have been on the edge of obtaining the Gold Level in the Journey to Excellence. While he is not going far, we shall miss him. We will continue to work hard, just as he has taught us. He has become our good friend and is entitled to the highest praise. Steve has earned the title of “Stand Up Guy”. We should all follow the example he has set.

Do you know someone who should attend WOODBADGE this Fall and can not afford the whole thing?

Well I have an opportunity for them to apply for a Scholarship so they can attend.

Rebekah Weir was a dedicated Scouter and Rotarian. She holds the distinction of being the first woman in the U.S. to complete her Wood Badge ticket. The Rotary Club of College Park received funds from her estate and has invested these funds to create a perpetual Fellowship for a National Capital Area Council Scouter to have their Wood Badge fee paid. An annual competition for this Fellowship will be conducted to select the recipient. The committee will be from the membership of the Rotary Club of College Park and include at least one member of the Council. The committee will use the following criteria (candidates do not need to meet every single criteria): personal commitment as a leader of a Scouting unit in NCAC; unit will benefit from your attendance; Scouting history; need for funding to attend; and, to reflect the life of Rebekah Weir, Rotarians and diverse candidates are encouraged to apply, especially those serving youth of diverse communities in either organization.

Apply Now

Please have them copy don.durbin@Scouting.org when they send the application in.

Yes it does say the application is due 1 May but please ask everyone respond as soon as possible.  For additional information contact  info@collegeparkrotary.net

Royal Robbins, a mountaineering legend, just passed at age 82. He made the first ascent expedition in many of Yosemite’s tallest mountains. He championed “leave no trace” before it was invented, insisting on “clean climbing” and no pitons left in the rocks. He got into rock climbing “through the boy scouts”, and he “got into the boy scouts because (he) got out of jail as a kid, and that seemed like a good choice.” The scouts will always be a good choice.
